Elder Valentine's district companions and a heart-warming view into his bedroom.

Elder Valentine Group Email, 28 July 2015:

Dear Everyone,
Hello! I'm so glad I finally get to write! my P day is obviously Tuesday, and it's been pretty lame to not be able to write anyone yet! First off, I'm just gonna send a big email to everyone that gave me their email, so you'll all get a letter every week. If you write to me, I'll hopefully be able to write back, but if i don't, please be patient; I want to write to as many people as i can, but my family is my top priority!

Anyway, my first week at the MTC has been way good! right when I got here, they took me to class, and the teacher was ONLY speaking portuguese. I was so confused. For an hour, i sat there while the teacher talked and I tried to listen to whatever I could, but nothing was making sense. It was ridiculous! But since then, I have learned a lot, and I can actually ask some questions and understand some of what our teacher is saying. I can bear my testimony and pray a little bit, and I know some gospel terms and stuff. But there is so much to learn!

I have been to a couple of devotionals so far, and in one of them they asked if anyone could recite the "my purpose" found on page 1 of Preach my Gospel, and I had it memorized, so I recited it in front of 740 missionaries! If you're planning on serving, memorize it!!! The devotionals have been super spiritual and  I've learned a lot about the atonement and my role as a missionary in serving the Lord. It's been amazing! Elder Allen, the general missionary somethin somethin president, came and gave a sunday devotional about being worthy of the spirit to teach. It was crazy and a few missionaries have been confessing some unresolved problems that have made them unworthy of serving. I am so glad that I'm worthy of this calling, and It's my testimony that it is only with the Gift of the Holy Ghost that we can truly serve the Lord.

My companion is Elder Meza! He is from colorado but his parents are from ecuador and peru so he is fluent in spanish, which makes portuguese a lot easier for him. he has been teaching most of our discussions with our investigator Barbara, I try and say some things here and there but it's really hard for me. Barbara, by the way, is our investigator that we are teaching, and we have already committed her to be baptized! She's not actually an investigator, but she is representing someone she knows and is taking the discussions very seriously, so it's really cool that we already committed her! Elder Meza is a super good missionary. I've learned a lot from him and I am trying to be as good of a missionary as him.

My district is way cool! there are 10 elders and 2 sisters, which is WAY bigger than most districts, which normally only have like 6 people. They are all really cool Elders and Sisters and I'm so blessed to be with them every day! Elder Meza and I are rooming with our 3 zone leaders, so we learn a lot from being around them at night. Most of my time is spent in the classroom (like literally 9 hours a day) so i dont talk to them a ton, but when I do It's a lot of fun!

Okay, well thats the jist of my week. If you have cool questions or want to tell me anything, please email me! I love you all! Eu sei que o Livro de Mormon e verdadeiro, e Jesus Cristo e nossos Salvador e Redentor, e a igreja de Jesus Cristo dos santos dos ultimos dias e verdadeiro.

Thanks everyone! Talk to you all next week!
