Group Email - March 28 2016

Hey everyone!

So this week, we talked to Susana again, but just over the telephone because she lives far away from us, and she said she had read the book of Mormon and wanted to know how to get an answer if it was true! She is so ready to be baptized! Elder Barrett and I want to invite her for baptism the next time we talk to her, which we hope we can do this week. Unfortunately, Afonso left town for a month, so we won't be able to talk to him for a little while. A month is a long time for a missionary! We could be on the other side of the country in that time! Haha when we mark appointments more than a week in advance it feels like an eternity before we have the lesson.

Dear sisters of the church - how was the women's conference? I totally forgot it was happening!

We had a fun little Easter party at our chapel this last Saturday, where we hid some chocolate eggs for the people to find because they don't do that here in Portugal, and showed "the lamb of god" and talked about the Resurrection of the Savior. It was a lot of fun! And the talks this Sunday were all centered on the Savior, as they should be. I love Easter time! The Resurrection is truly the "good news" of the gospel, and I am so grateful to be a part in sharing that message with the people here in Portugal!

This week, I would like to share a scripture we talked about with our Bishop this last week. 1 Nephi 17:2-3 -

2 And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings.
3 And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them;wherefore, he did provide means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness.
This scripture was written during a time of great strife for Nephi and his family. They could have been worried about their families, how they would get to the promised land, how they would survive in the wilderness, but, at least Nephi, was grateful to God for strengthening their wives and their children, as they kept God's commandments. It is my testimony that as we do God's will, He will bless us! Just as it says in D&C 82 :10 .-  10 I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.
I know that times are hard, and that sometimes we feel like we can't go on, but I also know that as we keep God's commandments, He WILL bless us and "provide means whereby we can accomplish the thing which He has commanded us."
I hope you all have a fantastic week! See ya'll later!

- Elder Valentine!
